24/7 Claims

We appreciate 21st Century’s 24/7 claims service, because you never know when you’ll get into an accident.

Direct-to-Consumer Sales

21st Century sells insurance directly to consumers like you, cutting out intermediaries like insurance brokers. You’ll buy insurance from 21st Century agents, either over the phone or online.

Roadside assistance is necessary, especially for teen drivers, but it’s usually supplemental. However, it doesn’t apply to anyone who’s already a customer of AAA or OnStar, two third-party roadside assistance companies.

In all states that require insurance, driving with proof of insurance is a legal necessity. Fortunately, law enforcement will accept digital or physical forms of insurance. In case you don’t have your insurance identity card on you, 21st Century offers a mobile app in which you can view and share your insurance ID. You can also perform these tasks in the 21st Century app:

  • Pay your bill.
  • View your policy information.
  • Call for roadside assistance.
  • Contact the company directly.

The app is available for iPhone and Android users alike.

Company Background

Today, 21st Century is a car insurance company based in Wilmington, Delaware, and providing service for drivers in California only. But how did it get here — to the 21st century?

  • 1958: Louis W. Foster founded the company, then called 20th Century. Originally, it provided car insurance directly to people living in California only. The company was housed in a one-room office in Los Angeles and insured only good drivers.
  • 2003: 21st Century became incorporated.
  • 2007: AIG acquired 21st Century and rebranded it as AIG Direct.
  • 2008: When the recession hit, AIG nearly collapsed and decided to restore the brand as 21st Century. Unfortunately, the rebrand didn’t save the jobs of 500 employees or the four offices that had to shut down.1
  • 2009: Things turned around for 21st Century when Farmers Insurance purchased it for about $1.9 billion.2
  • 2018: 21st Century celebrated its 60th anniversary.
